Among being one of the original ports in Jamaica, it was one of the busiest trading ports in the Caribbean, shipping sugar, molasses, rum and coffee bound for England.

Today it stands as a redeveloped world-class cruise ship port destination and commercial development centre listed on the Western Caribbean cruise itinerary.
